Variations on the decoration inside the frame, with chestnut or laurel leaves and tendrils forged down to the finest details, testify to the producers’ skilled craftsmanship. These also indicate they had acute perception skills and an interest in applying principles of dynamic Art
Nouveau sculpture while working with an unmalleable material – which is why this banister specimen was integrated into the decorative art collections. (jme)
